Human life is a wondrous journey where we encounter innumerable people, events and cherish a million memories. This Annual Day is a celebration of human emotions, achievements, failures and finally the spiritual upliftment of a person.

With a deep sense of gratitude to God and happiness I, the Principal, Sr. Gracy present the Annual Report for the Academic Year 2019-20. On this joyous occasion of the 19^th Annual Day, it is a great moment to extend a genial welcome to our distinguished Chief Guest Rev. Sr. Dr. Rose Bastin, Director of St. Joseph College, Irinjalakuda, Kerala, our Manager Rev. Fr. Dr. C. Michael John, our Primary Headmistress Rev. Sr. John Paul Mary, our Pre-Primary Headmistress Rev. Sr. Nancy, Sisters, special invitees, dear loving parents, teachers and my dear students, to this august gathering.

The Annual Report shows you how we are succeeding and mounting as a School. It outlines what we have achieved, how well we are going and what we need to focus on next to continually improve the educational programmes and services for students. The report also provides some assurance about the way resources have been used to provide the very best quality teaching and learning environment for our children.

Our Norbertine Family:

The School currently has a strength of 4305 students, 122 Academic staff, 102 Non-Academic Staff which includes Transport Staff and Support Staff. 

Academic Excellence:

Excellence in academics is the hallmark of a good education Institution and the results of Classes X and XII of our School prove without an iota of doubt that our students have made us proud. It is an honour to say that Two Hundred and Six students appeared for the Class X CBSE Board Examination and Eight Students passed with impressive score of above 95 percentage. The total Pass Percentage in Class X is 96.

One Hundred and Twenty Three students appeared for the Class XII CBSE Board Examination. Mst. Mitesh Khemani was the topper of the School with 95 Percentage in PCM stream. Ku. Ishita Goud topped with 92.5 Percentage in PCB and Ku. Samiksha Dashore with 95.2 Percentage in Commerce.  The Management appreciates and congratulates all the meritorious students.

Staff Enrichment Programmes:  

‘Education, like the mass of our age’s inventions, is after all, only a tool; everything depends upon the workman who uses it’. The workman in the field of education is the teacher. Staying updated is the key to success in any field, especially, in education. Our teachers relentlessly strive to enhance their skills by participating in workshops and various training programmes organised in our School especially on the Fourth Saturday of every month.

The following seminars and workshops were organised this year for the teachers.

1. A seminar was organised on the topic ‘Child Abuse’ on the 10^th of June 2019. The resource persons were Mr. Vikas Nautiyal and Ms. Prathibha Malhothra from New Delhi. During the input session, they enumerated various types of abuses as well as life skills needed to prevent Child Abuse.
2. On the 20^th of June 2019, there was an interactive session By Mr. Duttaraj Joshi, the legal consultant of our School.
3. There was a workshop on the topic “Pollution and Health Hazards” by Dr. S. Bhawani, from RRCAT, Indore on the 27^th of July 2019. The resource person gave us a detailed insight into the serious nature of atmospheric pollution and its terrifying impact on all living beings.
4. On the 31^st of August 2019, there was a seminar on the topic ‘English Handwriting’ by Mr. Himanshu Singh, Director of English Olympiad Handwriting Competition.
5. An enriching workshop was conducted by our Manager Rev. Fr. Dr. C. Michael John on the topic ‘Who am I?’(What defines me?). It was very practical and during the session, he touched every aspects of human identity and supported them with examples, mostly from the Holy Bible.
6. A seminar on the topic ‘Life Skills’ was conducted by Mr. Abdul Rauf from IPS Academy on 16^th September 2019.
7. On 2^nd October 2019, the teaching Staff went on a day of outing and relaxation to Nakrali Dani.

Students’ Enrichment Programmes:

The Students’ Welfare Committee looks after the protection of rights and supervises the welfare activities of our students. SNS promotes and coordinates the different students’ activities for better community life. We try to nurture their mental, physical and cultural growth with various activities for their overall development and to make them competent to face the challenges of life. 

The prominent activities organised during the year.

1. Our School nurtures the students by assigning them responsibilities in different spheres of the School activities. For this, a Students’ Council was formed on 24^th July 2019. Yash Rayate was elected the Head Boy and Ku. Trisha Nimbalkar the Head Girl.
2. The students were given gifts on the occasion of Children’s Day by the School Management as token of love and the teachers put up a spectacular Cultural Programme depicting the prominence of the day.
3. A one-day picnic was organised for the students of Classes VI to XII as part of Co-scholastic activity to Somaniapuram on Children’s Day.
4. On the 16^th of July 2019, the students of Biology attended a live demonstration of Heart Surgery at Choithram Hospital on 16^th of July 2019.
5. A long trip is also planned for the students of Classes IX to XII to Gujarat in the Month of December as a part of their learning experience.

Seminars and Orientation Programmes:

1. A seminar was organised for the students of Class X on the topic ‘Mother Nature’ by our Counsellor Mrs. Nisha Maicury on 24^th June 2019.
2. She also conducted a seminar for the students of Class VIII on the topic ‘Alphabet of Life’ on 25^th June 2019.
3. On the same day, another seminar on the topic ‘Humanity’ was conducted by her for the students of Class VII
4. On 16^th August 2019, our counsellors Mrs. Nisha Maicury and Mr. Deepak Kanodiya conducted a seminar on the topic ‘Raising Concentration’ for the students of Class X.
5. On 22^nd August 2019, a workshop was organised on the topic ‘Personality Development’ for the students of Classes XI and XII. Our Counsellors Mrs. Nisha Maicury and Mr. Deepak Kanodiya were the resource persons.
6. On the 29^th of August 2019, we made accessible to the students the live telecast of launching of ‘Fit India Campaign’ by our Honourable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. On that auspicious day, our students vowed to ramp up the programme.
7. On 9^th August 2019, the Catholic Diocese of Indore organised a seminar on the topic ‘The importance of Catechism’ for the Catholic students of our School at St. Arnold Higher Secondary School, Lalaram Nagar, Indore.

Infrastructural Development:

The Management has added several more infrastructural facilities to the Institution. Some of the remarkable ones are a new Auditorium, a Seminar Hall for the teachers and Meeting Hall, all equipped with the latest technology of light and sound system.

The inauguration of a new Volleyball Courts and Table Tennis Boards added more feathers to the Crown of St. Norbert. New toilets for both boys and girls were also constructed this year.

Proud Moments:

1. Naman Sharma of Class IX participated in the 65^th National School Wushu Championship. He bagged the 1^st Position with a gold medal and certificate.
2. Krishna Kumar Sharma of Class IX clinched the 1^st position in the 50m. Swimming Championship, organised by Sahodaya Schools Complex Indore.
3. Our School Choir participated in the Inter-school Patriotic Singing Competition held at Palda and bagged the 1^st
4. Jiya Solanki participated in the 62^nd M.P. State and Inter District Table Tennis Championship. She secured the 2^nd position.
5. Our School Girls’ Volleyball Team were the first runner-up in the Interschool Volleyball Tournament held at Maa Umiya Patidar Girls’ Higher Secondary School.
6. Ishan Sharma and Ku. Arushi Sahu of Class IX won the 2^nd position in the Best out of Waste Competition.
7. Vedang Soni of Class IX was declared the Champion of District Badminton Championship.
8. Sumant Chaskar of Class VII won the 2^nd position in the IMC Exotic Photography Competition.
9. Surveshi Pingle of Class XII participated in the 64^th Vovinam Championship. She secured the 2^nd position with a silver medal and certificate.
10. Ishika Vaswani of Class VII clinched the 1^st position in the 4^th ISKO M.P. State Karate Championship.
11. Naitik Asawa of Class VI bagged the 1^st position in the 4^th ISKO M.P. State Karate Championship.
12. Some of our students also participated in the Sahodaya Interschool Folk Dance Competition held at St. Mary Champion School. Our students won the best performance award.
13. Sania Pingle of Class XI won Broze Medal and Silver Medal in the international Malabar River Festival, Kerala. She also participated in various International events held in China and Spain.
14. Vyom Rohila of Class X participated in the Canoe Polo Asian Championship held in China and won silver medal.
15. Dron Velecha of Class XII and Mst. Akshaj Patel of Class X participated in the Technocon V1.0 and secured the 1^st position.
16. Mahak Singh of Class VIII secured the 1^st position in the Sahodaya Interschool Debate Competition.
17. 31 students of our School were selected for State Level Vovinam Championship. Out of which 15 of them were selected for National Vovinam Championship.
18. We hosted the Interschool English Skit Competition on the topic “Being the change, you wish to see in the world”. 12 Schools of Cluster-II participated.
19. We also hosted the Sahodaya Interschool Volleyball Tournament in which 26 teams of both the boys and girls participated.
20. Our School Cricket Team took part in the Interschool Cricket Tournament held at Indore Institute of Science and Technology and was declared the winner of the Tournament. They were awarded with a Trophy and cash award of Rs.16000/. They also became the title holders of Naveen Rawat Memorial Interschool Cricket Tournament.
21. Our School Basketball Girls’ Team participated in the Sahodaya Interschool Basketball Tournament held at Golden International School. They were the first runner-up of the tournament.
22. In the Senior Bal Vigyam Competition held recently, our students were conferred with Best Project award in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Commerce and Best Presentation award in Computer Science.

Birthday and Feast Day Celebrations:

We also celebrate the birthdays of our teachers on every fourth Saturday whose birthdays fall in that month. The Feast Day of the Manager, Principal and the Headmistresses are also celebrated in our School grandly to inculcate the virtues and principles of their Patron Saints. These celebrations not only help us get to know each other but also encourage living a community life.

Celebrations

Our School celebrates some important days and festivals to make the students learn about our culture, heritage, and to make them aware of its relevance. We celebrate National and Religious Festivals like Independence Day, Republic Day, Teachers’ Day, Children’s Day, Diwali, Eid, Christmas, Guru Nanak Jayanthi, Annual Day and Annual Sports Day of the School.

Social Welfare Committee:

In order to inculcate social responsibility in the minds of the children and to indoctrinate in them the divine qualities of care and concern for fellow beings, the Social Welfare Committee worked enthusiastically from the very first day of its installation. The theme for the year is, ‘Giving is Receiving’. The theme was officially inaugurated by Dr. Lalita Sharma Anant, a very prominent social worker and a member of Abhakunj Welfare Society. The Chief Guest in her speech highlighted the importance of being good human beings and to be sensitive to the needy. She also encouraged the students to contribute generously for the noble cause.

Honouring our Teachers:

Every year, the Management acknowledges and felicitates the teachers on completion of ten years of committed service. They are usually honoured on the day of Annual Function. An unevaluated life is a waste of life itself. Meticulous evaluation of one’s performance helps the person to improve his/her performance. We have introduced the Annual Staff Appraisal this year, and the Management appreciates and thanks them for their contributions and awards them for the same.  Seventeen teachers are adjudged ‘Excellent’ during the Academic Session 2018-19

Competitive Examinations

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE)

Ku. Bhumika Dawar of Class XI cleared the NTSE. A good number of students are preparing vigorously for the NTSE this year. A special training for these students was also organised in our School.

Spell-Bee Examination:

Eight students of our School reached up to State Level Grand Finale of the Spell-Bee Examination. The students were also awarded with Gold Medals and Certificates. Three Hundred and Seventy two students are going to participate in this Academic Year.

Transfers and Appointments:

After having served for six years, our former Principal Rev. Sr. Lilly Mary was transferred to Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Rev. Sr. Jeya Arasi was transferred to Bhopal, after having served as the Headmistress for the last five years. St.Norberts remember with gratitude their selfless services.  Rev. Sr. Gracy has been appointed the New Principal and Rev. Sr. Nancy, as Pre-Primary Headmistress. Rev. Sr. John Paul Mary has been elevated to the Primary Section as Headmistress.                                                           

Intra-School Competitions:

Intra- School Competitions play a vital role in motivating students to perform and excel and offer a lot more than just the winning prizes. Competitions offer a chance for the participants to gain substantial experience, showcase skills, analyse and evaluate outcomes and uncover personal aptitude. It also encourages students to adopt innovative techniques and develop their ideas and skills. In order to promote students to enhance their confidence and participation, we organise a number of Inter- House competitions during the Academic Year, like Solo Singing Competition, Solo Dance Competition, G.K. Quiz Competition, English Poem Recitation Competition and Hindi Poem Recitation Competition. The winners of these competitions are honoured on some special days.

PTMs

Every second Saturday of the month is reserved for Parent- Teacher Meeting. The main purpose of this meeting is to create a common platform, where the teacher and parents come together to enrich the student’s educational experiences and discuss their individualized performance. Most of the parents participated in PTMs after Periodic Test -1 and Half Yearly Examination. It helped to have a fruitful interaction between the teachers and parents.

Many changes have occurred, and as we all know change often brings growing pains. The bottom line is that we have all grown through the process, and we will continue to move forward to make this School all that it can be!

It is rightly said, ‘The secret of all great undertakings is hard work and self-reliance’.

First and foremost, I take this opportunity to thank the Almighty for his providential love and blessings for making this day a memorable one for all of us.
